Storytelling

I thought this was great storytelling advice- from my Daily Candy Kids daily email. I will have to remember this for when Sylvie is older.

Tell Me More
Lemony Snicket’s Bedtime Storytelling Tips

a bedtime story you'll enjoy!

Nodding off midbedtime ritual isn’t exactly the stuff of memories.

We tracked down the reclusive Lemony Snicket, famed author of the just-released musical whodunit book and CD, The Composer Is Dead. It took coaxing, but he reluctantly revealed the secrets behind telling a riveting lights-out tale.

1. Ask your child what the title should be. This stalls for time and spreads the blame if the story’s no good.

2. Name the villains after people who wronged you in high school.

3. When you get stuck, remember Raymond Chandler’s advice: “When in doubt, have two guys come through the door with guns.” The bedtime equivalent is a clumsy talking animal holding a tray of cream pies.

4. At the end of the story, all of the characters should be very, very tired.

5. Don’t bring your cocktail, because you might accidentally leave it and wake your child when you sneak back to retrieve it. Alternately, you may forget about it entirely and three days later someone will find a warm martini on your child’s dresser.

(Note: This has never, ever, ever happened to him.)

The Big Apple Circus

We went to the circus with Heather and Bert last night. It was wonderful! Sylvie was in awe the whole time. I didnt think she would even care where we were, but she loved all the lights and bright colors.

Here is Grandma the clown and another clown getting 'rained' on.
My favorite part was the dog act.

Next year we should all go to the circus again, when little Heater and Bert is around!

The dog did it.

I always thought that our dog, Addy, was stealing Sylvie's little socks. Now I think Addy was framed by the cat.
I found a sock in Momo's food dish. Here she is looking guilty. Who knows though- maybe Addy is framing Momo?

Meet our new boy....

As most babies do, Sylvie is alwasy throwing up a little on her shirts at daycare. We usually bring clothes for her to change into, but one day she had no extra clothes. Luckily, darcare has spare clothes for the babies. On this particular day, she got to wear a boys button down shirt. I came home from work to our new boy! Thank goodness she had on her princess socks and flowers on her jeans.

Lazy Saturdays

Happy Valentines Day!

On Valentines Day, it was 'Wear Your PJ's Day!' at daycare. I was a little embarrassed, because Sylvie often wears her PJ's to daycare- I didn't know this was only for special occasions. She is just a baby and I believe she should be comfortable.
On a side note, I was also a little embarrassed when I dropped her off one day and realized all the little babies had on SHOES! Even the newborn, 7 week old babies had shoes on! Sylvie only wears socks. and sometimes they don't match.

So her class had a group picture at daycare and all the moms and dads got to take home a copy. You can barely see Sylvie in the back. She is stretching her neck so that she can be in the shot.

6 month check up

Sylvie had her 6 month check up and shots and she is very healthy. She does not like her shots, but I think we all knew that. I feel sorry for her nurse. She is very distinct looking with spiky hair and colorfull glasses. I am afraid that every time Sylvie see's her from now on she will know what to expect. The nurse must be the most feared women in that doctors office!
After her shots Sylvie got a sticker from her daddy. She held on tight to that sticker all the way home while screaming. It was kinda cute (not the screaming part).
Sylvie is not the chubby baby that she was born as. Up until now she was in the 95th percentile for weight, length and head size (with 50% being average). She is now still in the 95th percentile for length, but 65th for weight and head size. So her brain must be getting smaller and she is going to be tall!
